Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Sheffield Salary: £460 – £600 per week Contract Type: Full time, long-term / Day-to-day Start Date: Immediately Are you passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Sheffield and make a real difference in students’ lives. Staff collaborate closely to ensure every student receives targeted support, helping them build resilience, confidence, and independence. About the Role: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support students who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance. You will play a key role in helping pupils engage with learning, manage their emotions, and develop positive relationships within the school community. Responsibilities: • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs, promoting engagement and positive behaviour. • Assist in implementing personalised support plans and behaviour strategies tailored to individual students. • Build strong, trusting relationships to support emotional regulation and social development. • Support classroom activities, ensuring students can access learning effectively. • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to monitor progress and adapt strategies. • Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavioural development. Qualifications: • Previous experience supporting students with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour is desirable. • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting young people. • A genuine passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning.
