An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Immunisation Coordinator to support the immunisation and vaccination programme in Swansea Bay University Health Board.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and motivated individual with great communication and interpersonal skills to join our highly skilled and dynamic immunisation team. You will need to have the ability to multitask, organise your own workload whilst remaining calm under pressure and enjoy a challenge.

You will have a caring and compassionate personality and want to make a positive difference. You will have an in-depth knowledge of the routine and selective immunisation schedule across the life course; be able to work with the immunisation coordinators to answer complex immunisation queries; and will have the necessary skills and knowledge to have discussions with individuals and families on all matters regarding immunisations. Experience of working with children and young adults would be advantageous.

The role will involve a significant focus on improving uptake of routine childhood immunisations and closing the gap that exists in uptake between the most deprived and least deprived areas in our communities in Swansea Bay, and in reaching those underserved populations within our communities.

Main duties of the job

Provide highly specialist clinical advice in relation to the care of clients and vaccine history and eligibility.

Safe administration of vaccines by various routes, including intra-dermal techniques.

Work in collaboration with health care professionals from primary, and secondary care, in addition to close working relationships with the third sector and trusted voices within our communities.

A high level of communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team. The successful applicant will have a supervisory and managerial role, including mentoring, facilitating training in line with national standards, and undertaking clinical audits, ensuring standards of care are met at all times.

The successful applicant will be required to be able to deal with pressure with a positive attitude and possess a professional and flexible approach to their work.

Working hours may include the need to work at weekends/evenings to meet the needs of the service.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Registered Nurse
2. Professional knowledge acquired through Degree, supplemented by Post Graduate
3. qualification/Diploma or possess skills, knowledge, training and experience to its equivalency
4. Mentorship training/qualification
5. Extensive knowledge of the Vaccination and Immunisation agenda

Essential Experience

Essential criteria

6. Substantial experience of working within the speciality either as an Immunisation Coordinator or an Immunisation N
7. Substantial post registration experience, ideally in the Primary Care setting
8. Previous experience in clinical supervision
9. Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team

Desirable criteria

10. Current immunisation training / update or willingness to undertake further training, or experience in a clinical supervisory position.

11. Effective skills in communicating complex and sensitive information and in difficult situations, requiring empathy, reassurance, persuasion and influence.
12. Practical skills and knowledge of cold chain procedures and medicines management
13. Skills for nurturing key relationships and maintaining networks
14. Ability to analyse and interpret information, pre-empt and evaluate issues, and recommend and appropriate course of action to address the issues. Problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands
