Protection & Control Engineer – SSEN Transmission
Base Location: Glasgow, Perth, Inverness or Aberdeen (Scottish locations)
Salary: £50,100 – £75,100 + car/car allowance + performance‑related bonus + a range of benefits
Working Pattern: Permanent, Full‑Time, Flexible – First options available
The role
As part of SSEN Transmissions Offshore Portfolio, we are looking for a Protection & Control Engineer to join the newly formed Offshore AC Project Engineering team. The role focuses on driving forward our Island projects and delivering a network that supports Net Zero, including HVDC connections, state‑of‑the‑art AC plants, grid control and stabilisation technology in challenging environmental conditions.
Responsibilities
* Assess and define the technical scope of protection and control requirements for new build substations and modifications to existing.
* Prepare outline scheme designs, key line diagrams, protection setting calculations and setting files for relays, and support the implementation of IEC61850 solutions.
* Review third‑party contractor/consultant detailed designs, witness FAT, and provide support for field teams to ensure quality of installations.
* Evaluate tenders and procure/manage specialist services from consultants.
* Support multi‑disciplinary project teams in identifying and managing engineering risks and recognising opportunities for the project to excel.
Qualifications
* Minimum HND level qualification in Electrical Engineering.
* Demonstrable technical skills in Transmission protection and control specification and scheme design, including calculation of protection settings for implementation.
* Confidence to technically assess engineering problems and critically evaluate a range of technical solutions.
* Good communication skills with the ability to demonstrate diligence, prioritise tasks and a thorough understanding of relevant legislation (including CDM and ESQCR) and its implications for Transmission network management.
* A Chartered Engineering status or the pursuit thereof (SSEN Transmission supports and recognises professional development).
