Mwldan is one of Wales’ most distinctive arts centres: a multi‑artform venue and creative organisation at the heart of cultural life in Cardigan and west Wales.
For more than 40 years, Mwldan has combined ambitious artistic programming with deep community connection, presenting a year‑round programme of live performance, cinema, participatory activity and creative collaboration. From theatre, music and dance to independent and mainstream cinema, Mwldan has built a national reputation for artistic quality, warmth and innovation whilst remaining firmly rooted in its place and communities.
We are now seeking an exceptional Chief Executive & Creative Director to lead the organisation through its next chapter.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a nationally respected cultural organisation with a strong civic role, loyal audiences and a distinctive bilingual identity. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the successful candidate will lead all aspects of the organisation’s artistic, operational and strategic development, balancing creative ambition with financial resilience and organisational leadership.
We are looking for someone who can inspire staff, artists, audiences and partners alike; someone comfortable leading a complex independent venue whilst also understanding the possibilities that come from being rooted in a rural community with a strong cultural identity.
Mwldan operates across three auditoria and multiple studio and community spaces, delivering an extensive programme of live events and cinema alongside community participation and artist development activity. The organisation also has a significant history of producing and touring work nationally and internationally.
We are looking for a collaborative, emotionally intelligent and strategically minded leader with:
* Significant senior leadership experience within arts, culture or venue management
* Experience balancing programming, people, operations and financial sustainability
* Strong relationship‑building and communication skills
* Knowledge of fundraising, partnerships and public funding
* A genuine commitment to culture, community and the role of the arts in public life
Knowledge of Welsh culture and language is important. Fluency in Welsh is desirable but not essential.
Cardigan is one of the UK’s most distinctive small towns: creative, independent, bilingual and surrounded by extraordinary coastline and landscape. Mwldan plays a central role in the cultural and civic life of the region and this is an opportunity to lead an organisation with both national profile and deep local impact.
