Functional Skills Tutor - Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre
Campsfield House is due to open soon as the UK's first all-electric Immigration Removal Centre, providing custody services, welfare, regime, and recreational activities. We are looking for respectful, diligent, and caring colleagues to join our team.
Job objectives and responsibilities
* To actively promote and design educational activities that deliver Employability Skills, vocational courses, and business start-up courses, including online learning and assessment processes.
* These initiatives are intended to meet the needs of residents and adhere to contractual requirements while enabling them to earn external qualifications.
* This tutor will conduct workshops focused on their areas of expertise, ensuring they address the needs of residents and fulfill contractual obligations.
* To provide a safe, secure, stimulating, supportive, and productive environment for residents that encourages attendance and enables skill development.
Main duties
* Promote employability and vocational skills courses including Maths and English, explaining available opportunities and their relevance as part of the Preparation for Release programme.
* Assess the ESOL and skills level of learners, ensuring they have sufficient language skills to enroll, and adapt teaching to overcome barriers.
* Develop and deliver core modular courses and advanced teaching modules, supporting learners to achieve their objectives with engaging teaching methods.
* Deliver the OCN Vocational Skills programme, maintaining standards of delivery and quality assurance.
* Provide a short induction to residents to encourage participation and ensure activities are relevant and interesting.
* Work proactively with staff and residents to support cultural events and develop workshops that enable residents to gain transferable skills.
* Develop and deliver activities, competitions, and projects such as CV writing and interview skills to help learners achieve their goals.
* Create and maintain a welcoming, respectful, and positive learning environment.
* Monitor attendance, retention, and achievement, and develop strategies for improvement.
* Ensure all documentation and administrative tasks are completed accurately and in line with policies.
* Utilize resources effectively to ensure quality and value for money.
* Manage the learning environment, ensuring maintenance and security of tools and equipment.
* Advise on equipment and purchases needed to meet contractual and best practice standards.
* Support Regimes & Activities and other areas as needed to ensure service continuity.
* Undertake additional duties to support relevant vocational courses and activities.
Person Specification
Essential
* Appropriate teaching qualification and experience.
* In-depth knowledge of vocational skills in their area of expertise.
* Previous teaching experience in a related subject.
Desirable
* Experience delivering creative skills workshops/training.
* Experience within a custodial setting.
* Experience working with ESOL learners, with a patient and understanding attitude towards language barriers.

Applicants must be eligible for CTC clearance, hold a valid British or EU passport with a share code, and have lived and worked in the UK for at least 3 years without extended overseas trips. No criminal convictions or ongoing investigations are permitted.
