We have a new and exciting role in the London Victim and Witness Service, which has created two fabulous opportunities for a Male Independent Domestic Violence Advocate – Housing Specialist to join our specialist team supporting male victims. The roles will be home and office based, covering the whole of London, full time working 37.5 hours per week.

About the role:
This role is home and office based, with travel throughout London. As a Male Independent Domestic Violence Advocate – Housing Specialist you will: -
11. Ensure that male survivors’ safety and housing needs are met.
12. Provide specialist support for survivors at the moment of crisis.
13. Provision of advocacy; supporting survivors to access safe accommodation.
14. Ensure that the service prioritises the safety, security and dignity of service users and their children
You will need:
15. A good understanding of domestic abuse including the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their children.
16. Understand the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims of domestic abuse and their children
17. Understand Safeguarding issues, and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues.
18. Have a good understanding of Housing Law to be able to provide up to date advice and information to victims of domestic abuse on housing related needs
19. Experience of working with housing agencies or in a housing setting in the context of domestic abuse
20. Have excellent communication, negotiation and advisory skills, both written and verbal when interacting with a range of agencies and individuals. Understand and be committed to equal opportunities and diversity issues in policy and practice.
21. Have a strong crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations.
22. The ability to speak a second language is desirable: specifically Arabic or Urdu; Sylheti/Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Turkish, Kurdish, Polish, Gujarati, Somali, Yoruba, Akan, French, Lingala or Igbo is desirable.
