The role
As a Maintenance Technician, you’ll join a highly skilled and hands‑on technical team responsible for maintaining, repairing and preparing specialist fire‑training buildings, rigs, breathing apparatus equipment and operational training environments. This work ensures crews can train safely and effectively, days a year. It’s a uniquely practical and varied role where no two days look the same — and where your work directly supports public‑safety training.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
1. Carry out hands‑on maintenance, repairs and decorating to keep training buildings and facilities safe, clean and operational
2. Prepare, maintain and inspect fire‑training equipment, breathing apparatus, rigs and training areas to ensure operational readiness
3. Complete routine checks, planned maintenance tasks, defect logging and updates through the planned maintenance system
4. Maintain safety and compliance by working to SOPs, HS&E standards, risk assessments and ISO documentation requirements
5. Support wider site operations including vehicle movements (LGV/forklift), stock management, and maintaining tidy, functional facilities.
This is a full‑time onsite role, working 37 hours, 4 days on and 4 days off rota across an 8‑day period, including weekends, from 07:00 to 17:30.
Essential experience of the Maintenance Technician:
6. Practical maintenance experience, including repairs, equipment care, decorating and facility upkeep
7. Understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental safe systems of work, including SOPs and compliance processes
8. Ability to work in a physically active environment, carrying out manual tasks safely
9. IT literacy, including use of maintenance systems and Microsoft Office for reporting
10. Experience handling or maintaining specialist or safety‑critical equipment (e.g., BA equipment) is desirable.
