 
        
        Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low, and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise in control system design and SCADA/telemetry systems is beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
 * Provide technical engineering leadership across the Standards, Asset Management, and Engineering Directorate.
 * Influence and shape future service delivery, ensuring assets are safe, reliable, and sustainable and meet net‑zero carbon commitments.
 * Manage, develop, and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, and oversee HV and LV power systems and control systems at assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures, and monitoring sites.
 * Develop, deliver, and maintain competency and skills guidance for employees working on electrical systems and equipment.
 * Hold a national incident response role, which may require working outside normal hours.
Qualifications & Experience
 * Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
 * Strong understanding of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489, telemetry/SCADA systems.
 * Knowledge of high‑ and low‑voltage generation and distribution systems.
 * Experience in developing and delivering safe systems of work, risk assessments, and method statements.
 * Proven ability to test, isolate, and prove dead high‑ and low‑voltage electrical systems.
 * Risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance, including Failure Mode Effects Analysis, reliability systems, and processes.
 * Experience drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions, and guidance.
 * Excellent work management, teamwork, and communication skills.
 * UK driving licence.
 * Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer (or evidence of working toward registration within 12 months).
Working Conditions
Hybrid role with a base location near your home; some travel and overnight stays may be required.
