Our client, an innovative “Climate Tech” start-up based in Glasgow, is seeking a Multi-Skilled Mechanical Technician with experience in piping, compressed air, and high-pressure systems to support their research and development (R&D) activities and system deployments. You will play a key role in the commissioning, assembly, and installation of bespoke industrial systems, including pressure vessels and fluid handling systems. This is a hands-on, varied role suited to someone confident working with mechanical systems in a mix of site-based and workshop-based settings. You'll collaborate closely with engineers, supporting the build and testing of innovative prototypes and production systems. THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT Essential Skills and Experience: * Proven experience in a mechanical technician or installation role. * Confident working with compressed air systems, pipework, and high-pressure vessels. * Comfortable with hand tools, fittings, valves, and general workshop equipment. * Understanding of mechanical safety in pressurised systems and flammable liquids. * Ability to read basic mechanical drawings and follow schematics. * Good physical fitness, manual dexterity, and willingness to work hands-on. * Safety-conscious, reliable, and methodical approach to work. Desirable Skills: * Forklift license (counterbalance or reach truck). * Familiarity with hazardous area working or ATEX environments. * Experience with chemical or refrigerant handling (e.g., isopentane, CO₂). * Basic fabrication or mechanical fitting skills. * Knowledge of test procedures, instrumentation, or data logging equipment. * Comfortable working independently on site or as part of a small team. JOB DESCRIPTION * Commissioning of new mechanical systems, including high-pressure and vacuum-based assemblies. * Perform on-site inspections prior to equipment delivery, identifying required services, constraints, and installation needs. * Assemble and connect pipework for compressed air, gas, and liquid systems, including flanged, threaded, and compression fittings. * Fill vessels with working fluids (e.g., isopentane) using defined procedures and safety protocols. * Conduct technical installations, including bracket mounting, mechanical routing, insulation, and seal testing. * Support pressure testing and leak checking using gauges, regulators, and hand tools. * Collaborate with engineers on R&D projects, giving feedback on physical fit, assembly practicality, and installation feasibility. * Operate workshop equipment and tools to prepare components or fittings as required. * Assist with moving and positioning heavy equipment using forklifts, pallet trucks, slings, and jacks. * Document key observations or measurements during test or installation processes. * Coordinate and manage staff business trips including staff travel needs and accommodation.
