Location: Oxford, UK (on-site at Oxford Technology Park)
Reports to: Process Engineering Manager
Employment type: Full-time
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assembly Technician to join our hands-on
team, assembling real flying products with a focus on payloads and camera systems for
drones. This role is ideal for a skilled technician experienced in electronics, camera
integration, and SWIR imaging software, responsible for constructing drone-borne imaging
payloads from individual components to fully flight-ready units. You will follow precise work
instructions, conduct electrical checks, troubleshoot and resolve faults, and maintain
meticulous build and test documentation. Daily activities will take place in our Oxford lab,
working under the guidance of the Process Engineering Manager and collaborating closely
with Manufacturing, QA, and R&D teams.
What you’ll do
• Assemble, integrate, and test electro-mechanical payloads (camera modules, PCBs,
lenses, filters, gimbals, wiring harnesses, enclosures) to work instructions and
ensuring all components meet functional and quality standards.
• Perform electrical verification: continuity/insulation checks, power-up/bring-up, load
tests, and basic functional tests using DMM, bench PSU, and oscilloscope.
• Conduct initial calibration and performance validation of SWIR imaging systems within
drone payloads.
• Work closely with suppliers, to identify, troubleshoot and resolve hardware or software
issues (e.g., mis-wiring, intermittent connectors, mechanical interference, ESD
damage); escalate recurring issues with clear root-cause notes.
• Assist in the integration of electronics and camera systems with embedded software,
contributing to basic software tests and firmware updates.
• Carry out precision mechanical work and support optical/mechanical setup: lens
focusing, filter placement, flat-field checks, and basic alignment fixtures as instructed.

• Flash firmware, run end-of-line test scripts/fixtures, and record results in the build log
(serials, test data, NCRs, rework actions).
• Handle ESD-sensitive devices properly; keep benches/tools calibrated and tidy (5S
mindset).
• Assist with incoming inspection, kitting, stock counts, and packaging/dispatch of
completed payloads.
• Give feedback to the Process Engineering Manager on work instructions, jigs, and
DFM/DFT improvements.
Benefits
