Wood is recruiting for Graduate OHL Design Engineers to join Wood Transmission & Distribution UK Ltd i n the Overhead Lines Design Engineering team based in the UK. The office locations available are Glasgow and Horsham. Wood has been supporting electricity transmission in the UK since the original creation of the National Grid in the 1960s. We have continued to operate in Construction, Maintenance and Consulting for the building and developing of high voltage transmission and distribution assets. As part of the current necessary investment to develop the UK transmission assets to connect new renewable energy sources and improve the security of the electricity network, there is currently a boom in resources needed. The investment and development plans of our clients will grow rapidly over the next few years and extend through to 2050. The Role Wood is deeply committed to the development of their people and recognises the importance of growing a talented team of professionals with expertise in Overhead Line Design Engineering to ensure the future success of the organisation and the Energy and Materials sectors that we support. As a Graduate OHL Design Engineer, you will have exposure to different parts of the business gaining vital skills. You will focus initially on the technical design of the assets, but rapidly engage and develop in supporting and planning the construction alongside our operational teams. Our Engineering team supports Tendering, Material Procurement and Control, improving safety by design and finding new ways to ensure we develop sustainable construction projects; as well as ensuring our design outputs support the efficient construction of your designs. Due to the nature of contracts we deliver, you will be involved in the whole project lifecycle, developing your skills, and building a career; this will help you develop the necessary attributes you need to demonstrate meeting the Engineering Council requirements for Chartered Engineers. Within your role you will be supported to develop your skills so that you can be responsible for: Complete overhead line design studies to support construction and consultancy projects. Set up and develop transmission line models. Produce electrical line performance assessments and all electrical safety studies. Produce or utilise OHL support models within the transmission design models. Evaluate, select, and quantify transmission line components on projects. Support safety by design assessments throughout the design process. Integrate and support the development of innovation within project solutions. Create design deliverables to confirm the outputs of the engineering studies to internal and external stakeholders. Ensure, as far as practicable, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with the agreed budget and programme. Keep up to date with all technical quality management procedures, developments and specifications related to the discipline work scope.
