Known for its exceptional food and intimate atmosphere, the venue has been a local favourite for over a decade — celebrated for its outstanding steaks, creative seafood, and unique character.
Now entering an exciting new chapter, the restaurant is evolving into a modern, innovative gastro destination — and we're looking for a talented Sous Chef to help lead the way.
About the Role
As Sous Chef, you'll play a vital role in developing and delivering our new modern gastro menu. Working closely with the Head Chef, you'll help shape dishes that showcase locally sourced, seasonal ingredients — including our signature, ethically sourced beef.
This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and ambitious chef to express creativity, develop leadership skills, and grow within a supportive and forward-thinking kitchen team.
Key Responsibilities
* Menu Development: Contribute to the creation, testing, and execution of innovative, seasonal menus that reflect the restaurant's evolving concept.
* Kitchen Leadership: Inspire, train, and support junior chefs, ensuring consistent quality, timing, and presentation.
* Operational Excellence: Oversee daily kitchen operations, including stock control, inventory management, and hygiene compliance.
* Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards across every dish, ensuring excellence in flavour, presentation, and consistency.
* Team Collaboration: Foster a calm, positive, and professional working culture that encourages teamwork and open communication.
What We're Looking For
We're searching for a passionate, dedicated professional who thrives in a creative and high-quality kitchen.
* Experience: Proven background in a senior kitchen role (Sous or Senior Chef de Partie) within a reputable, quality-driven restaurant or gastropub.
* Culinary Skills: Broad technical knowledge, adaptability, and a flair for creativity.
* Leadership: Confidence in mentoring others and maintaining high standards under pressure.
* Mindset: A problem solver with a proactive, can-do attitude and a commitment to excellence.
* Passion: A genuine love for food and innovation, with the drive to help shape a new era of dining in York.
