About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Technician to join our fleet and workshop team at our Hurricane Way depot. If you are a problem solver, detail-oriented, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we would love to hear from you.

This role is a senior technical position responsible for delivering complex diagnostics, inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs across a wide range of vehicles, plant, and specialist equipment. Acting as the workshop’s technical authority, you’ll independently manage and prioritise workloads to meet statutory obligations and operational demand, ensuring all assets are safe, compliant, and certified for use. You’ll make critical safety decisions, respond to emergency breakdowns including out-of-hours callouts, and maintain rigorous standards of documentation, legislation compliance, and audit accuracy. The role also includes managing parts and consumables, supporting corporate safety through PAT and equipment inspections, identifying trends or risks, and escalating high-impact issues where required. This is a key position for someone who thrives on responsibility, precision, and keeping essential services moving.

The ideal candidate will hold a full UK driving licence and a minimum Level 2 City & Guilds (or equivalent) qualification in mechanical, horticultural, or engineering disciplines, with Level 3 desirable. They’ll bring strong practical experience and advanced knowledge of maintaining and repairing vehicles, plant, and horticultural equipment, including commercial grounds and streets machinery. They’ll have a solid understanding of PUWER, LOLER, and safe systems of work, along with experience in a senior or lead technician role. Skilled in problem-solving and collaboration, they’ll provide clear technical guidance, communicate effectively, and maintain accurate records. They’ll be confident assessing repairs, preparing estimates, selecting parts, and working under pressure to meet operational and statutory deadlines. With excellent attention to detail, sound judgement, and a dependable work ethic, they’ll work well both independently and as part of a team. Practical abilities in welding, hydraulics, and fabrication, physical capability for manual handling, and a flexible approach to supporting wider service needs will complete their profile.
