PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The continued success of the team has led to an increase in the number value of key mandates, and we are looking to recruit a Construction lawyer to join our Scotland team to work on a variety of non-contentious construction matters. This includes acting for Developers, Lenders, Landlords, Tenants, PPP's and Public Sector Bodies across a range of JCT, NEC, other standard form contracts and bespoke terms.
There is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in transactional delivery, client relationship development and continued expansion of the team and practice.
This is a high performing, cohesive and busy team with a strong client list and pipeline. Associates are encouraged to be involved in business development and in building client relationships allowing for the development of client networks and continuous learning.
THE TEAM:
With more than 100 specialist lawyers, including 26 Partners, our Construction and Engineering team offers a full service of legal solutions to all aspects of the construction industry.
Our Team in Scotland consists of 3 partners and over 10 other fee earners. The team's specialist experience combined with their commerciality, great relationships and innovation are the reason that they remain ranked in both Legal 500 and Chambers.
The team advise on every aspect of Construction Law across all sectors of the industry, both contentious and non-contentious. The work of the group is hugely varied and includes buildings, civil and process plant engineering, energy, infrastructure and utilities - across both private and public sectors. The team also provide project support and advice to our wider Real Estate, Banking and Projects teams
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE:
• You will be based within our Glasgow or Edinburgh office, and you will be required to be in the office a minimum of three days per week.
• The successful candidate can expect to have significant client contact. This is a fun, high performing, cohesive, busy team and there are excellent prospects for career development and a fantastic array of clients for you to get involved with and help deliver their projects.
• Top quality construction mandates: Our market leading construction team continues to grow the mandates on which it acts both for existing and new clients. You will have plenty of opportunity to assist in pitching for work and helping to manage client relationships.
• The team has a strong reputation for providing associates with early levels of responsibility within a supportive and stretching environment and therefore you can expect to take a leading role on some matters. At this stage in your career the team will take a genuine interest and support you with your development therefore offering excellent career prospects.
• You will be assisting in the drafting of and advising clients on a range of construction issues and documentation including consultant appointments, warranties, construction and development contracts, in a range of sectors including living, office, retail life sciences, energy industrials and transport.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Have at least 12 months + experience within construction law, seeking a new challenge with a non-contentious focus.
• Enthusiasm, proactivity, and a drive to develop professionally.
• A willingness to contribute to the success and development of the team.
• An ability to deliver concise & practical legal advice.
• Exceptional newly qualified candidates will also be considered.
• Maintain efficient diary and task management across a range matters, ensuring the accuracy and levels of client service expected within a high performing team.
• Be confident in drafting clear and legally effective documents, which reflect the client's instructions.
• Remain calm and optimistic in time sensitive situations or under pressure.
• Be enthusiastic about the development of your legal skill set and continuous learning.
• Be inquisitive and want to understand our clients, their drivers and what matters to them, so that your advice has quality, imagination, and impact.
