Consultant in Psychiatry for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities
We are seeking a Consultant in Psychiatry for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities to provide specialist community psychiatric care to people with intellectual disabilities residing in Pembrokeshire.
Job Summary
We are driven to support people with learning disability to access a high standard of care for their presenting difficulties. The service has already implemented Dementia, Epilepsy, and PMLD pathways. Our Mental Health Pathway is currently in development. The service is committed to addressing health inequalities for people with learning disabilities and has established a Primary Care Liaison service in addition to the general hospital LD Liaison team. These teams participate in education sessions with GP Trainees and undergraduate medical students and are being strengthened to align to wider Directorate support for Liaison and strengthen our early intervention and prevention model.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide specialist community psychiatric care to people with intellectual disabilities who reside within the county of Pembrokeshire (Pembrokeshire Community Team for Learning Disabilities).
* Provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the speciality.
* Sustain and develop teaching and research where appropriate.
* Conduct clinical practice in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and policies.
* Contribute to the Consultant on-call rota (1 in 14).
* Maintain confidence in business plans and development strategies for the specialty or Health Board.
* Exhibit core clinical expertise in Intellectual Disability Psychiatry.
* Experience and knowledge of running a specialty service.
* Leadership and team-building skills; work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Support and training for multidisciplinary teams.
* Participate in CPD including Audit and maintain professional development for Revalidation.
* Teaching and Training role for medical undergraduates and postgraduates; supervise Resident and Middle Grade Medical Staff.
* Undertake regular multidisciplinary clinical audit and provide evidence-based medicine.

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will be eligible to hold an Honorary Academic title at a partner university with responsibilities including undergraduate teaching (examining, teaching, and supporting research). Responsibilities and programmed activities will be negotiated jointly between the post holder, the university, and the Health Board and form part of the job plan. Qualifications
* Essential: Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice; on specialist register or SpR with CCT within 6 months of interview; Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists; Valid certified advanced life support skills
* Desirable: Higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc) or equivalent
Clinical Experience
* Essential: Broad-based experience in psychiatry across sub-specialities; knowledge of UK hospital systems; CPD; competence in management of acute psychiatric presentations; expertise in treating mental disorders in people with learning disabilities
* Desirable: NHS experience; broader experience in research and training; evidence of above-average performance; additional clinical qualifications
Clinical Governance
* Essential: Participation in clinical audit and understanding its role in improving practice
* Desirable: Knowledge of risk management
Research
* Essential: Experience in critical appraisal of evidence to improve outcomes
* Desirable: Ability to initiate and progress research with publications; research degree
Teaching
* Essential: Experience organising programmes and teaching medical students and junior doctors
* Desirable: Further teaching programme development and Training the Trainers experience
Management
* Essential: Knowledge of NHS management and structure
