Exciting things are happening within the Digital Services Team at Derbyshire County Council, and we’re looking for a Solutions Architect to join our Strategy & Architecture team.
Following a major organisational and digital strategy review, we are investing in modern tools, innovative platforms, and new ways of working to support a large‑scale Digital Services transformation programme. Our ambition is to deliver modern, reliable and user‑centred digital services for the citizens and communities of Derbyshire — and you could be a key part of that journey.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their architecture career who has a foundation in technical design and wants to develop their skills while making a meaningful difference in local government. You’ll work on services that genuinely improve people’s lives — from social care and education to environmental services and community support — and you’ll gain hands‑on experience with cloud technologies, integration solutions, data platforms, and architecture tooling such as LeanIX.
We offer hybrid working and a supportive team environment focused on learning and development.
What you’ll be doing
As a Solutions Architect, you will support senior architects and wider Digital Services teams by:
* Analysing technical and business requirements and helping translate them into effective solution designs.
* Contributing to architecture governance processes to ensure designs align with our principles, standards, and technology roadmaps.
* Supporting IT and business teams to apply best practice, emerging technologies, and modern delivery approaches.
* Producing architecture documentation and assisting in resolving complex technical challenges.
* Providing clear guidance and support to stakeholders across the Council, helping ensure value for money and user‑centred digital services.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone with:
* Experience in IT architecture or technical solution design.
* The ability to support large or complex IT projects with clear technical insight.
* Awareness of technology roadmaps and how they support business strategy.
* An understanding of Enterprise and Solution Architecture principles.
* Knowledge of datacentre and cloud technologies, patterns, and reference architectures.
* Experience using architecture tools (LeanIX preferred but not essential).
* A positive mindset, a willingness to learn, and strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Benefits
* 27 days of annual leave plus an additional 5 days after 5 years’ continuous service
* Flexi time, allowing up to an additional 2 days of leave per month
* A generous Local Government Pension Scheme
* Guaranteed incremental annual pay increases
* Hybrid working and a supportive team environment
* Commitment to your professional development, including training, certification support, and mentoring from experienced architects
* Cycle to work scheme
* Discounts at selected county leisure centres
