Overview
Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Chelmsford. You will work closely with a Quantity Surveyor to support procurement and administrative tasks on specific projects.
Responsibilities
* Procurement of building materials (from schedules), bracketry & metalwork (from drawings) – tendering, obtaining quotes on time, analysing quotes, discussing with the QS, tracking against budgets, negotiating with suppliers, drafting and placing purchase orders.
* Update packages on the procurement schedule (Excel) and track reminders for upcoming releases.
* Follow up suppliers to ensure lead times are maintained and deliveries are on time.
* Maintain a materials management schedule (Excel) to track materials from order through to arrival, including locations, dates, orders, delivery notes, pallet/stillage refs, photos, etc.
* Deal with reactive procurement issues (e.g., missing materials, site requests) in coordination with the team.
* Coordinate with project team throughout.
* Assist QS with pricing of variations – obtaining quotes from suppliers, etc.
* Assist QS with monthly applications and vesting processes.
* Budgeting exercises in advance of final design, and monitoring budgets as we progress on site (e.g., plant, building materials, forecasting costs).
* Maintain a high level of attention to detail.
* Be organised, diligent and with good sense of initiative.
* Be a good listener and a clear communicator.
* Be a team player able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* Demonstrate excellent negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
* Demonstrate good financial and numeracy management skills.
* High level of IT literacy.
* Ideally at least 1 year of experience in a similar construction role.

This is a full-time permanent role, based in Chelmsford, England, United Kingdom, working Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
