Job Title: Primary Teaching Assistant (Day-to-Day, Part-Time & Full-Time - Including SEN Roles)
Location: Swadlincote, Derbyshire
We are currently recruiting dedicated and flexible Primary Teaching Assistants to work across a range of friendly and supportive primary schools in Swadlincote and the surrounding areas. We have opportunities available for day-to-day supply, part-time, full-time, and long-term roles, including positions supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Whether you are an experienced Teaching Assistant, have SEN experience, or are looking to gain valuable classroom experience, we have roles to suit a range of backgrounds and availability.
The Role
As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you will support teaching and learning across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Assignments may involve general classroom support or focused 1:1 SEN provision.
General Classroom TA Responsibilities:
Supporting the class teacher with lesson delivery and classroom activities
Working with small groups to reinforce learning and deliver interventions
Supporting phonics, reading, writing and maths sessions
Assisting with classroom preparation and resource organisation
Promoting positive behaviour and pupil engagement
Supervising pupils during transitions and break times where required
SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities (where applicable):
Some roles will involve supporting pupils with additional needs such as:
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
ADHD
Speech and Language needs
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Moderate learning difficulties
In SEN-specific roles, you may:
Provide 1:1 support in line with EHCP targets
Implement behaviour management and personalised learning strategies
Support emotional regulation and sensory needs
Work closely with the SENCO and class teacher to monitor progress
Encourage independence, communication and social skills
Previous experience supporting children with SEN is highly desirable for these roles, although guidance and ongoing support will be available.
What We're Looking For
Experience working with primary-aged children (school experience preferred)
SEN experience (desirable for SEN-focused roles)
A patient, nurturing and adaptable approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
The ability to quickly adapt to different school environments
Relevant qualifications (Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant) are desirable but not essential
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
