1 Year Fixed-Term (Maternity Cover)
Required for September 2026
“A mindbogglingly good, state comprehensive. Proving that consistent, well-managed, well-resourced, well-delivered and kind education for all can, and does, make a difference to a community.” (The Good Schools Guide, 2025)
The King's School is an 11-18 comprehensive school, which takes great pride in the promotion of excellence in teaching and learning, pastoral care and extra-curricular activities. Our core purpose of 'Achievement for All' encourages every student to develop their skills, interests and talents, not just through academic achievement but also through a rich variety of enrichment opportunities including house competitions, extra-curricular clubs, trips and visits.
For September 2026 we are looking to appoint a teacher who is creative, dynamic, and able to communicate their passion for D&T: Food to the whole ability range. It is important that the successful candidate views Key Stage 3 and 4 Food Preparation and Nutrition as a significant part of a wider D&T curriculum and can articulate its relevance in today's world. The candidate should be organised, confident in assessment for learning and, above all, someone who will form positive relationships with the students they teach and be supportive of the school’s inclusive ethos.
We are looking for a talented classroom practitioner and a team player with a strong depth of subject knowledge who is able to take a lead in this area of D&T. The successful candidate will be working in a purpose built, D&T Food room. The department has seen nearly £1 million worth of capital investment in its facilities and indicates the strength of commitment the school has to this curriculum area. The D&T facilities at the school are now some of the most impressive in Devon.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join a very experienced and supportive department with a commitment to deliver D&T. We offer a very strong support programme for teachers who are starting their career and working towards ECT status or returning to teaching after a break.
When applying for the role, it is important that you refer to the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and the DBS Disclosure Policy, which can be found on our website (). We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of students, so all staff are enhanced DBS checked.
Please contact Mrs. Pocock at for further details or see our and apply online. The closing date is 09:00 on Monday 11th May 2026.
