Waste Operative Location: Buxton- SK17 7JD Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday) Salary: £12.71 per hour Sodexo rewards and benefits About the Role We are looking for a reliable and hands-on Waste & Environmental Operative to support day-to-day waste management across our manufacturing site. You will help ensure waste is collected, sorted, and processed correctly, while keeping the site clean, safe, and running efficiently. This is a practical, varied role where you will play an important part in supporting recycling, reducing waste, and improving how we manage materials on site. Key Responsibilities Support the site’s objective to achieve zero waste to landfill by identifying and implementing improvements in waste handling systems Collect waste from various site locations and ensure correct segregation into appropriate waste streams Operate compactors and balers safely and effectively to optimise waste volume reduction Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation as well as company and client policies and procedures Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and housekeeping across all waste management areas (internal and external) Safely operate equipment and vehicles in accordance with site access and egress procedures Champion health & safety by following all procedures, including reporting near misses and hazards Support environmental audits and ensure full compliance at all times Work collaboratively with site teams to improve sustainability performance and reduce operational costs Assist in training and coaching team members on correct waste segregation practices Support the review and updating of risk assessments, policies, and safe systems of work Deliver or support waste awareness training across site teams Continuously seek opportunities to improve efficiency, cost effectiveness, and environmental performance Carry out general site maintenance duties such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, and weed clearance Be flexible to work varying shifts and overtime as required Attend training sessions as required and contribute to ongoing personal development Skills and Experience Required Experience working within a manufacturing or industrial environment (preferred) Strong awareness of health & safety practices and a safety-first mindset Understanding of recycling processes and sustainability principles Good organisational and planning skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Physically fit and able to carry out manual handling duties Professional, customer-focused, and positive attitude Flexible approach to working hours, including overtime when required Why Sodexo?: Working with Sodexo is more than a job; it’s a chance to be part of something greater.
