The Health and Safety Officer (Construction and Estates) will provide competent advice across the University, with a primary focus on estates, construction, and contractor management. The role includes advising on CDM Regulations, supporting Clients, Principal Designers and Contractors, developing and reviewing policies, Construction Phase Plans, RAMS, SSoW and permit-to-work systems, as well as carrying out site inspections, audits, and investigations. The postholder will deliver training and toolbox talks, promote a positive safety culture, and represent EHSS at committees, occasionally deputising for the H&S Manager. Essential requirements include the NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent), NEBOSH Construction Certificate, IOSH membership at CertIOSH or higher, and a valid CSCS card. Candidates must have substantial experience in construction/estates health and safety, with expert knowledge of CDM Regulations, contractor management, incident investigation, and training delivery. Strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills, alongside initiative, autonomy, and attention to detail, are vital, while experience in higher education, PUWER/LOLER, and estates services would be advantageous.
