Job Role Overview
These roles are replacement positions within the Academy of the Great Western Hospital, focusing on Undergraduate Medical Education. The Trust highly values staff wellbeing, offering extensive support to maintain it. The Trust's Health and Wellbeing team received a National Award in 2020 for their efforts.
These posts (see table 1) are designed for post-foundation year doctors interested in a medical educational role at The Academy in Swindon, working with medical students from the University of Bristol (UoB), Oxford (UoO), and King's College London (KCL).
Suitable Candidates
Ideal for doctors taking a break before higher medical training, those wishing to pause their training program (subject to approval), or individuals pursuing an academic career with a higher degree such as an MSc or MD. The posts comprise an educational role (80%) at the Academy and a supernumerary clinical component (20%), or alternatively, a 50% clinical and 50% educational ward-based role.
Application Guidance
Candidates may apply for both office-based Clinical Teaching Fellow posts and ward-based teaching roles, indicating their preference if successful.
Responsibilities
* The CTFs collaborate daily with the Academy Undergraduate Manager, administrators, and UC/UTs to organize teaching programs and clinical placements.
* Regular communication with UT/UC and among CTFs is essential, including formal meetings and the use of individual or group Outlook Calendars.
* Office-Based CTFs work 40 hours weekly, with one day in a clinical specialty, though hours may vary. Ward-based CTFs in ED or ITU typically rotate weekly between clinical duties and Academy work, including some weekends.
* The presence of students in the Academy varies throughout the year; educational activities are averaged accordingly.
