We're looking for a Project / Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our client in the Kent region.
Our client specialises in providing comprehensive commercial and contractual support throughout the entire lifespan of contracts. Additionally, they offer a suite of Quantity Surveying services tailored to tier 1 contractors and specialised subcontractors operating within the construction and civil engineering industries. Our client caters to clients within both the building and infrastructure sectors.
Location: Kent
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: £60K-£70K
What will you be responsible for?
As a Quantity Surveyor, you'll be an integral part of our client's commercial team. The Senior Quantity Surveyor will play a crucial role in managing and minimising project costs and risks to maximise value while ensuring compliance with legal standards and quality specifications outlined in the contract.
Your Role:
Advising on financial feasibility of projects at early stages
Organising the division of projects into component work packages for procurement.
Assessing returns from sub-contractors and awarding work packages, negotiating with sub-contractor supply chain to achieve best value.
Managing applications for payment from sub contractors, preparation of applications for payment to clients.
Monitoring and measuring actual expenditure against budgeted project expenditure in the form of CVR (Cost Value Reconciliation Reports and preparation of final accounts
What are we looking for?
This role of Senior Quantity Surveyor is great for you if you are:
Be able to manage both up-stream to client and down-stream sub-contractors
Attend conferences and work related functions and represent our client at a senior level
Be able to explain and demonstrate, via internal training, a contract monthly payment cycle
Be able to explain to their clients why certain contract terms and conditions should not be accepted - begin to carry out contract reviews - supervised
Begin to advance and formulate 'attack' and 'defence' strategies for adjudications
Seek to make yourself invaluable to many of our client's smaller clients and one or two of their larger clients
Their clients should be asking for you again on their 'next' project
Be conversant with all the major aspects of either NEC or JCT (or both)
Belong to professional body (RICS/CICES/CIOB) at member level
To assist with client training and hold one-to-one sessions with junior employees
Be comfortable communicating with all QS's and being to communicate with QS's of their clients
80% self-sufficient - be able to converse with other Senior QSs and Managing QSs on most commercial matters
