Children & Young People CBT Therapist and CBT Lead

Reed House, 47 Church Road, Hove, BN3 2BE – Brighton & Hove Wellbeing Service.

Job Summary

CYP Cognitive Behavioural Therapist & CBT Lead in Brighton & Hove. Permanent contract, 30 hours per week (part‑time hours also considered).

Band 7 salary range: £46,148 – £52,809 per annum (pro rata). The role involves working within the Children and Young Persons (CYP) Service, providing cognitive‑behavioural assessments and interventions in partnership with other CBT therapists, psychological therapists, and the local CAMHS team.

Key responsibilities include delivering evidence‑based CBT to children and young people (aged 2‑24) with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, triaging referrals, maintaining activity contracts, attending multidisciplinary meetings, recording clinical outcomes, supervising line staff, and contributing to service development.


Responsibilities

* Provide CBT to children and young people with anxiety and low mood related difficulties via online and face‑to‑face appointments, ensuring services are culturally appropriate and accessible.
* Triage referrals, assess mental health difficulties and deliver CBT according to national guidelines.
* Educate and involve family members and carers in treatment, conveying CBT formulations in clear language.
* Attend multidisciplinary meetings related to referrals and treatment, and ensure appropriate transfers of care where needed.
* Maintain records of all clinical activity, CPD, and personal development plans in line with professional and regulatory standards.
* Provide clinical supervision and line management to Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners.
* Contribute to best practice development and evidence‑based service design.


Qualifications & Training

* Registered qualification in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy, or psychological therapy at graduate level.
* Evidence of training in mental health and experience working in stepped‑care services for anxiety and depression.
* Postgraduate Diploma or Masters in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy granting eligibility for BABCP accreditation.


Experience

* Experience working in mental health services and with children and young people.
* Ability to meet agreed service targets and manage own caseload and time effectively.
* High standards in written communication, including clear reports and letters to referrers.
