We are looking for a Sound & Light Technician to join our Professional & Creative Department.
The Sound & Light Technician is responsible for supporting the efficient operation of the department’s studios, performance spaces, and computer suites. The role will also involve providing technical assistance for scheduled events and occasional evening performances.
This is a front-facing position requiring close collaboration with students and colleagues across the Music and Performing Arts teams. The post holder will contribute to delivering an exceptional student experience and maintaining the highest standards in both academic delivery and performance production.
Responsibilities include:
1. Ensuring the allocation of all practical resources is organised and maintained, and made available across the Faculty as required. (Particularly with a focus on the area of Performance and Music.)
2. To support teaching sessions where required and timetabled
3. Ensuring compliance with College procedures and regulations
4. Providing general technical support and resources
5. Maintaining the studios and workshops to a professional standard.
6. To provide technical assistance, including demonstration, particularly in relation to the operation of equipment and supporting specialist processes for teaching staff and students.
7. To move and set up equipment and materials to different locations as required.
8. To carry out technical duties appropriate to his/her own skills and to prepare various items of equipment and teaching aids as required.
9. To prepare materials for practical classes and ensure, where required, correct disposal of waste.
10. To ensure safe storage of resources and equipment within the workshops, and assist in the ordering of new resources as required.
11. To implement and promote College regulations, policies and procedures.
12. To assist the Lead Technician with costings and control of materials and equipment when specified.
13. To participate in the development of workshops where appropriate.
