Senior Communications and Policy Manager – Interim opportunity
Location: Solihull – 2 days office/3 days home
Salary: Up to £70,000 (can be day rate equivalent or as FTC)

Our client is the voice of the sector, collaborating with members, government, and regulators to address skills challenges within the utilities sector. They offer membership, assurance, and skills solutions to help employers attract, develop, and retain a skilled workforce.
As the Senior Communications and Policy Manager, you will work at Group level, reporting to the CEO, and liaising with sales, membership, marketing teams, and other senior stakeholders to develop and execute a comprehensive communications plan for the upcoming five-year strategy, launching in October. You will engage with high-level stakeholders, including government leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement both external and internal communications plans.
* Create strategic communication initiatives, including thought leadership, white papers, speaking opportunities, and media coverage.
* Execute the communication plan across various channels such as web, video, social media, PR, and events.
* Manage the production of policy documents and oversee consultation responses and inquiries.
* Prepare communication materials for political conferences and networking events.
* Shape and manage the organization's positioning and responses to sector policy at multiple government levels, ensuring message consistency.
Candidate Profile:
* Proven experience in a senior communications and policy role.
* Background in the public sector, utilities, independent training providers, or similar; experience with awarding organizations is a plus.
* Experience in external communications, external affairs, and policy development.
* Comfortable presenting at high-profile events, including government briefings.
* Influential relationship builder and strategic thinker.
* Willingness to work from Solihull office two days a week with flexibility for travel.
This role is initially interim for approximately six months, available as a fixed-term contract or day rate freelance position. There is potential for the role to become permanent for the right candidate on a temp-to-perm basis.
