I’m working in partnership with a PE-backed global technology business that is currently entering a significant scale-up phase following continued investment and accelerated product expansion.
We’re exclusively retained to identify a Head of Software Development to take ownership of engineering across the business at a pivotal point in its growth.
This is a senior leadership appointment, reporting into the CTO, with full accountability for engineering delivery, team scale, and technical direction.

The business has moved beyond early growth and is now focused on scaling properly, engineering is central to that.
They are now looking for a leader who can:
* Build structure without slowing velocity
* Scale teams without losing quality
* And drive real technical maturity across the organisation
This is a “build it properly or it breaks” moment in the journey.
What you will own
* End-to-end leadership of a full-stack engineering function (backend, frontend, cloud)
* Direct partnership with the CTO on technology strategy and execution
* Rapid scaling of engineering teams in a high-growth PE environment
* Definition and enforcement of engineering standards, architecture, and delivery excellence
* Embedding AI / LLM capability into live product and platform strategy
* Building a culture that is high-performance, accountable, and delivery-led
Technology environment
* Backend: Node.js, Python, SQL
* Frontend: React, TypeScript
* Cloud: AWS (modern cloud-native architecture)
What we need from you
We are only considering candidates who have:
* Led engineering teams in genuine scale-up environments (not enterprise-only backgrounds)
* A proven track record of hiring, scaling, and structuring engineering teams at pace
* Strong hands-on technical grounding in modern web technologies
* Built or scaled production-grade platforms and engineering organisations
* Practical exposure to AI / ML / LLM-driven product development
* Operated in environments where speed, ownership, and standards are non-negotiable

* £180,000 – £250,000 base
