Estates Manager (Mechanical) Glasgow Royal Infirmary
AfC Band 7 (£48,788 - £56,747 per annum)
Full Time Permanent
Shift pattern - Mon - Thurs (0800-1600) (15:30 Fri)
We are seeking a experienced and proactive Estates Managers to join the Operational Estates team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI), a major acute teaching hospital within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. You will play a key role in delivering a safe, efficient, and compliant estates service across this busy and complex site.
Reporting to the Site Manager Operational Estates, you will manage a multi-disciplinary team of technical and trade staff, ensuring the effective maintenance and development of the estate. You will be responsible for operational delivery of planned and reactive maintenance, statutory compliance, and minor works projects, working closely with clinical teams to support patient care environments.
You will be expected to contribute to the development of estates strategies, sustainability goals, and quality improvement initiatives. The role also involves contractor management, budget oversight, and providing professional and technical advice to senior management and other departments.
Essential Skills & Requirements
* Qualification to Degree level in an appropriate subject with demonstrable experience of working in a healthcare or industrial/commercial building services environment, endorsed with a post graduate qualification in a supplementary discipline (e.g. Mechanical or Electrical or Building).
* A good working knowledge of statutory & mandatory guidance, e.g. Health & Safety Legislation, Scottish Health Technical Memoranda, Scottish Health Building Notes, Technical Standards etc
* Proven leadership and team management abilities
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and planning skills
Professional Registration
Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IHEEM, IET, CIOB, CIBSE) is essential. Chartered status or working towards it is desirable.
About The Department
The Estates Department at GRI supports a large, high-acuity healthcare site with complex infrastructure. You will be part of a supportive team including Estates Managers & Supervisors, trade/support & admin staff, the wider NHS GG&C team includes Compliance Leads, and Technical Officers. The department is committed to professional development and through application processes offers access to CPD, leadership training, and healthcare-specific qualifications.
You will provide support and guidance to junior staff and colleagues, play a key part in mentoring apprentices, and be required to participate in the Estates on-call rota.
