Technical Author – Slaughterhouses and Animal By-Products – UKBAT
Join the Environment Agency as a Technical Author on the UK BAT team.
Job Description
As a Technical Author, you will draft BAT conclusions, liaise with Technical Working Groups, and prepare final documents for publication as a new UK‑wide environmental standard for industry. You will contribute to establishing BAT within the UK for large slaughterhouses and animal by‑products installations.
Responsibilities
* Draft BAT Conclusions, liaise with Technical Working Groups, and present final documents.
* Provide specialist knowledge and understanding of the slaughterhouse and animal‑by‑products industry.
* Apply process engineering and environmental expertise to analyse technical arguments and data.
* Write clear, accurate technical documents.
* Manage projects and drive completion of deliverables.
* Support an inclusive incident‑management objective in your development plan.
* Travel and overnight stays (as required) while prioritising flexible working.
Experience and Skills Required
* At least 5 years working experience in environmental regulation related to the SA industry.
* In‑depth knowledge of the slaughterhouse and animal‑by‑products sector.
* Familiarity with UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, notably the IED and Environmental Permitting Regulations.
* Collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.
* Understanding the implications of BAT conclusions for permits, industry and the environment.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
* Strong planning, prioritising and organisational skills.
* Flexibility to respond to challenges and build consensus.
* Inclusive mindset and ability to work with diverse backgrounds.
