Registered Building Inspector (Class 2)
Location: Manchester (Hybrid working available)
Rate: £55–£70 per hour (Inside IR35)
Contract: Initial 6-month contract (high likelihood of extension)
Working Pattern: Full-time, Monday to Friday – Flexible hours and hybrid working available
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Registered Building Inspector (Class 2) to join a Manchester-based local authority. This is a flexible contract role offering a great work-life balance and the chance to work on significant city-wide developments. With a strong likelihood of extension, this is a role with long-term potential for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities of the Registered Building Inspector:
* Lead plan checking and site inspections across a wide range of building types (excluding Class 3), ensuring compliance with the latest Building Regulations and safety standards.
* Act as a senior technical advisor for major projects, balancing client expectations with regulatory compliance and financial constraints.
* Prepare clear, accurate reports and statutory notices that are fit for legal and enforcement purposes.
* Provide mentoring and technical support to junior members of the team.
* Respond to emergencies and dangerous structures as part of an out-of-hours rota.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of service delivery and help shape the strategic direction of Building Control within the authority.
What You’ll Need:
* Degree (or equivalent) in a construction or engineering discipline.
* Full professional membership with MCABE, MCIOB, MRICS, MIStructE, or CEng.
* Registered under the Government’s Building Inspector Competency Framework – Class 2.
* Demonstrable experience in Building Control within a Local Authority or Approved Inspector setting.
* Strong understanding of construction methods, safety legislation, and regulatory enforcement.
* Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
