Data Protection Manager – Michael Page
Join us as a Data Protection Manager based in Birmingham, reporting directly to the General Counsel. The role combines strategic oversight and operational execution of the organisation’s data protection agenda, ensuring compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act, and related legislation.
Responsibilities
* Inform business units and staff of their obligations under UK GDPR/GDPR/DPA.
* Monitor overall compliance with privacy policies, including the assignment of responsibilities, training, and conduct related audits.
* Oversee the completion of Data Protection Impact Assessments, Legitimate Interests Assessments, and Transfer Impact Assessments; provide support in these processes.
* Act as the primary contact for ICO matters, including prior consultation where required.
* Maintain the organisation’s data processing registers and all legally required accountability documentation.
* Champion, deliver training and provide guidance on the suite of Privacy & Data Protection policies across the business.
* Ensure that privacy‑by‑design, DPIAs, LIA, and TIA requirements are integrated into projects and their lifecycle.
* Investigate, manage and report on data breach or non‑compliance incidents.
* Co‑coordinate and complete annual reviews of processing activities.
* Monitor compliance with Group Data Protection, Data Retention, Subject Rights and Information Security policies.
* Chair the Privacy Board and report on ICO guidance or enforcement actions.
* Advise and train Privacy Champions across the organisation.
* Respond to privacy queries, subject‑right requests and other enquiries.
Qualifications
* Experience working in a Data Protection or Compliance role.
* Strong knowledge of GDPR, the 2018 DPA and associated UK legislation (including PECR).
* Working knowledge of a legal team or close collaboration with legal.
* Preferred: DPO certification.
