Sponsoring companies for the 2026 cohort include Rolls-Royce; the Office for Nuclear Regulation; the Atomic Weapons Establishment; the Ministry of Defence - Defence Nuclear Enterprise; Great British Energy - Nuclear; and the Environment Agency.
As a Nuclear Graduate sponsored by ONR, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the UK's nuclear industry. ONR is the nation\'s independent nuclear regulator, with a mission to protect society by securing safe nuclear operations. You will gain exposure to a range of nuclear sites, from operational power stations to waste management facilities, and receive professional development to enhance your skills and expertise while understanding the communities in which the nuclear sector operates.
Responsibilities
* Assist in regulatory decisions on whether systems and equipment are designed, installed, operated and maintained to adequately manage risk.
* Assess whether safety is being demonstrated and whether processes and procedures are fit for purpose in managing safety.
* Contribute to the development of national and international standards and guidance; specify and lead research projects; collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to assess risks.
* Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders (licensees, government bodies, international partners) and be prepared to take regulatory action when necessary.
* Demonstrate the ability to influence, make sound judgments, communicate effectively, and work well in a team while being aware of personal limits.
Qualifications

Programme details
Over two years you will gain invaluable insight into the breadth of the UK\'s nuclear sector, contributing to innovative designs, systems, products, and services. You will be employed by Energus and supported by an industry-leading sponsoring organisation. At the end of the programme, you will be supported in securing a role with your sponsoring organisation or within the wider nuclear sector.
Entry requirements
* A minimum of a 2:2 in a relevant degree subject.
* Candidates must have the right to work for the duration of the 2-year programme; offers are conditional on satisfactory right-to-work checks.
* Successful completion of security clearance checks.
* Willingness to travel and relocate. Energus head office is based in Workington, Cumbria; role locations vary by sponsor location.

Recruitment stages
* Online application form – complete all required sections.
* Psychometric assessment (Neurosight) sent via email.
* Online interview (20–30 minutes) with sponsoring organisations.
* Assessment centre – includes activities and information about the nuclear industry and the programme.
* Offer – outcomes issued within ~2 weeks after the assessment centre.
* Onboarding – preparation before starting in September 2026.
