The opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager, this is a leadership role responsible for the end‑to‑end performance of their Service Department. You’ll lead a multi‑disciplinary team across planning, field service and support functions, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient delivery of maintenance, repairs, installations and technical services nationwide. This role suits a commercially astute leader who enjoys working at both a strategic and operational level and who thrives in a regulated, safety‑critical environment.
Key responsibilities
Service delivery & operations
* Lead daily service operations, scheduling and workflow efficiency
* Ensure all work meets safety, quality, regulatory and contractual standards
* Resolve escalated operational and technical issues quickly and effectively
Leadership & people management
* Provide visible, values‑based leadership and foster a high‑performance culture
* Lead, coach and develop technicians, service planner and support staff
* Drive training, competency development, performance management and engagement
* Recruit, onboard and retain high‑quality talent
Financial & commercial performance
* Manage budgets, labour recovery, margins and overheads
* Review job costings, profitability and invoicing accuracy
* Identify performance gaps and implement corrective actions
* Support forecasting, quoting and commercial decision‑making
Revenue growth & customer relationships
* Identify new service opportunities and support sales activity
* Act as the escalation point for key clients
* Strengthen long‑term customer relationships and drive retention
Health, safety & compliance
* Champion a proactive safety culture with a target of zero LTIs
* Ensure compliance with NZ legislation, industry standards and TSS accreditation
* Oversee audits, incident investigations and corrective actions
Continuous improvement & reporting
* Drive process, systems and productivity improvements
* Produce accurate operational and financial reports
* Provide data‑driven insights to support planning and strategic decisions
About you
You're an experienced operational leader with a strong background in service delivery, engineering, construction, utilities, petroleum or other safety‑critical industries. You combine strong people leadership with commercial acumen and a practical, solutions‑focused mindset.
You will bring:
* Proven experience leading service or operations teams at a management level
* Sound work disciplines with excellent organisational skills and time management
* Strong financial and commercial management capability
* A sound understanding of health, safety and regulatory compliance
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skillsExperience driving continuous improvement and system adoption
* The ability to lead confidently in a fast‑paced, field‑based environment
* Flexibility as there will be some travel with the role
* A full New Zealand Driver Licence
