As an Operations Manager within our Engineering and Technology department, you will lead technical teams that manage operational technology, electrical safety compliance, and technical staff competence, contributing to electrical engineering projects. This role requires a strong technical background in electrical engineering. You will be a registered Chartered Electrical Engineer and ensure electrical systems comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
What you'll do
1. Lead and manage Operational Technology and Electrical Engineering teams, ensuring efficient and effective daily operations.
2. Ensure compliance with all relevant electrical safety and regulatory standards, including Electrical Safety Rules, British Standards, and the Electricity at Work Regulations.
3. Provide technical sign-off of electrical capital maintenance and enhancement projects, from design to delivery, meeting TOTEX, quality, and time objectives.
4. Fulfil duties of a Senior Electrical Engineer under the organisation's electrical safety rules, holding ultimate responsibility for electrical systems, compliance, and staff competence.
5. Provide technical expertise and guidance across operational areas, focusing on power systems and operational technology.
6. Conduct safety audits and manage inspections of electrical systems and equipment.
7. Lead investigations into electrical failures and incidents, implementing corrective and preventative actions.
8. Collaborate with senior management to develop strategic objectives related to operational technology and electrical engineering.
9. Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, DNOs, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
10. Manage the company's IET-accredited professional development scheme and oversee a mentoring programme for engineers.
Qualifications and experience:
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a relevant professional body, e.g., the IET.
* Degree in electrical or control system engineering.
* Experience managing electrical systems with a focus on regulatory compliance and staff development.
* In-depth knowledge of electrical safety regulations, including the Electricity at Work Regulations and industry standards.
* Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to identify risks, implement mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance.
* Commercial awareness and experience in highly regulated, safety-critical environments, ideally in water, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.
* Knowledge of SCADA systems, automation, and operational technologies.
* Excellent technical report writing and problem-solving skills.
