Offer description

About the Company: A UK-based organisation that manages capital across a range of sectors, with a focus on long-term growth and sustainable returns. It promotes a collaborative and forward-thinking culture centred on innovation, responsible capital allocation, and strong relationships with clients and partners.

About the Role: Ready to play a pivotal role in shaping sustainable forestry outcomes across a fast-growing, high-impact portfolio? We are recruiting a Forestry Sustainability Manager to support our client’s expanding portfolio of forest assets. This role will be instrumental in developing and delivering sustainability initiatives across a diverse range of forests, with a strong focus on biodiversity, natural capital, and climate performance. Working closely with the asset management team and wider stakeholders, you will help shape and implement the long-term sustainability strategy for managed assets, embedding environmental considerations into both day-to-day operations and strategic decision-making. Based in our client’s London City or Oxfordshire office, the role requires strong technical expertise in forest ecology alongside experience in commercial forestry. Familiarity with nature and sustainability frameworks, including Biodiversity Net Gain, is essential. You will also bring the ability to analyse complex information, exercise sound judgement, and take initiative in driving continuous improvement. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven, analytical, and detail-oriented professional with strong advocacy skills who is eager to deepen their exposure within the sector and make a meaningful impact within a highly regarded organisation. For a confidential conversation and to learn more, please reach out to Isabel.

Responsibilities:

* Create and maintain a clear sustainability and biodiversity approach for managed forest assets, including setting baselines, monitoring progress, and improving performance against agreed targets.
* Work with external specialists, consultants, and NGOs to apply best practices in sustainability and biodiversity, while meeting internal policies and regulatory requirements.
* Assess new investment opportunities for sustainability risks and benefits, lead due diligence with external advisors, and ensure sustainability is fully integrated into analysis tools.
* Support Fund and Asset Managers with sustainability reporting, and contribute to thought leadership and external engagement on the environmental value of managed forests.
* Help develop new investment products focused on carbon forestry, natural habitats, and biodiversity opportunities.

Qualifications: Education details not specified.

Required Skills:

* Demonstrated experience in assessing, managing, restoring, and enhancing forest ecology and biodiversity.
* Experience in commercial forestry, or a strong commitment to improving its environmental outcomes.
* Working knowledge of key climate and nature-related frameworks and regulations (e.g., SDR/SFDR, TCFD/TNFD, ISSB, EUDR, Natural Capital Protocol).
* Strong proficiency in research and financial analysis, able to quickly interpret complex information, work independently, and show initiative.
* Proven stakeholder engagement and representation across projects.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences clearly and confidently.
* Highly organised, able to manage priorities and meet tight deadlines in fast-paced environments.
* Collaborative team player who works effectively across functions to achieve shared goals.
* Strong attention to detail, paired with a curious and motivated mindset.
* Adaptable and committed, with a willingness to go above and beyond when needed.
* Strong IT and digital skills.

Preferred Skills:

* Experience with forest carbon standards (like Woodland Carbon Code or Verra).

Pay range and compensation package: A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package including private healthcare, pension, life assurance and a range of health and wellbeing initiatives, commensurate with the successful candidate's level of experience.
