Platform Technical Architect (AWS/Azure)
Location: Remote (UK-based)
Salary: £80,000 - £100,000 (depending on experience) + bonus
NOTE: Due to the nature of this role, candidates must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).
Are you an experienced Technical Architect or a Lead Engineer ready to step up into an architecture role? This opportunity offers the chance to design, build, and deliver modern cloud platforms at scale, while providing technical leadership across high-impact projects.
As a Platform Technical Architect, you’ll lead technical design and delivery of cloud-based solutions, working closely with customers and internal teams to shape high-quality, secure, and scalable platforms. You’ll balance hands-on engineering with architectural oversight, providing trusted technical leadership and guiding teams through complex challenges.
We’re looking for a strong technical leader with a proven track record in cloud platform engineering and architecture. You may already be working as a Technical Architect, or be an experienced Lead Engineer with deep design and delivery experience who’s ready for the next step.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design and delivery of modern cloud platforms (AWS or Azure).
* Define technical architecture, estimations, and non-functional requirements.
* Provide technical leadership, sometimes hands-on, to engineering teams.
* Automate, build, test, and support solutions using CI/CD and modern DevOps practices.
* Implement robust security, monitoring, and operational readiness across platforms.
* Coach and mentor team members, supporting their technical growth and career development.
* Stay ahead of new technologies and champion their appropriate use to deliver business value.
Essential skills & experience:
* Proficiency in at least one scripting/programming language: PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
* Strong background in designing and delivering CI/CD pipelines.
* Expertise with AWS or Azure public cloud services.
* Experience working in the public sector.
* Hands-on experience with modern automation and containerisation tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, or Puppet.
* Experience in technical leadership—making effective decisions in fast-moving delivery environments and guiding teams in a DevOps culture.
* Strong communication skills—able to articulate complex technical design to both technical and non-technical audiences.
