Electrical and Mechanical Project Manager
We are looking to recruit an Electrical and Mechanical Planned Works Project Manager to join our team in Great Wenham, Ipswich. This role is full‑time and permanent.
The successful candidate will earn a competitive salary of £45,091 - £52,413 per annum (pro rata for part time). The role is open to full‑time, part‑time, and job‑share applications, all of which will be assessed equally.
About the role
Babergh and Mid‑Suffolk District Councils have recently created a new Compliance Team within our Housing Directorate.
This role will oversee planned heating and electrical upgrades to our domestic housing stock and corporate properties, and manage asset information, contract management, planned installation works, product administration, and tenant engagement.
Reporting to the Compliance Manager, you will lead the operational delivery of the planned installation works program of mechanical and electrical services across our housing and corporate assets, ensuring contractors meet contractual and statutory requirements under the Building Safety Act.
About you
You will need a HNC or equivalent in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Building Construction, Building Surveying, or a related subject, or extensive experience in a similar sector with evidence of a portfolio of projects.
Relevant post‑qualification experience in a mechanical and electrical planned installation environment within social housing or a related sector is essential.
Key responsibilities and skills
* Membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET or TMIET) or equivalent approved body.
* IOSH/NEBOSH general certificate or willingness to study for certificates.
* Good working knowledge of health and safety legislation, guidance, and best practice.
* Gas Safe (desirable).
* Proficient with Microsoft Office.
* Understanding of building construction and regulations.
* Experience in procuring new contracts and mobilising contractors.
* Excellent contract management skills, including corrective action.
* Strong project management skills and ability to monitor and deliver programmes.
* Capability to explain technical information to non‑technical stakeholders.
* Analytical skills to produce reports from complex data.
* Methodical, organised approach to planning and record keeping.
* Teamwork: respect, consideration, and effective communication.
* Customer relationship building.
* Independent operation and prioritisation under pressure.
* Willingness to undertake training to meet changing needs.
A full valid driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential for site visits across a large rural area.
