Overview
Personal Assistant
A gentleman in his early 40s living at home with his parents in Ton Pentre. He has cerebral palsy and uses a powered wheelchair. He speaks clearly, has a good sense of humour, and his parents are his carers.
He is friendly and open-minded, values his daily routine, and works as a pupil’s advocate four days a week in a school for students with additional needs. He has IT qualifications and enjoys helping students learn IT skills and how to operate their powered wheelchairs.
Purpose of the Job
The Personal Assistant will help him get ready for work and accompany him to social events and community activities in his own vehicle. Tasks include personal care, dressing, showering, and assisting with mobility as needed.
Hours of Work
Please specify the hours you can work.
* 16 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, starting at 6:15am and finishing at 8:15am (preparing for work). The parents will train you to use the hoist in the home.
* Return at 5:00pm–7:00pm to assist with hoisting into bed, changing into night clothes, and returning to the wheelchair for the evening.
* 13 hours of social support: Thursday 5:00pm–10:00pm; Friday 9:00am–5:00pm for outings with friends and family, including lunch or shopping.
Rates of Pay
£14.00 per hour.
Tasks
* Showering and personal care, dressing and undressing daily.
* Social outings and accompaniment.
* Using the hoist; training will be provided.
Type of Person Required
* Comfortable with personal care support when needed.
* Very competent driver of an adapted vehicle.
* Sociable, with a good sense of humour.
* Respectful in the home environment.
* Reasonably flexible with hours.
* Honest, trustworthy, and a good time keeper.
About the Job
Although part-time, the role requires a National Insurance number. A trial period will apply. Wages are paid monthly and holiday pay is provided. The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) check, which the employer (Local Authority) will cover. Checks will be carried out to confirm the right to work in the UK.
