Staffordshire County Council is looking for a full‑time, fixed‑term (12 months) Social Worker based in Newcastle to support families across the continuum of looked‑after children. This role is part of the Children in Care & Care Leavers Team and involves working closely with the Duty Team, Assessment & Staying Together Teams, and Child in Care Teams.
Main Responsibilities
* Complete statutory duties by coordinating the child’s plan and ensuring that children are seen and heard.
* Undertake Section 47 investigations.
* Place children into Local Authority care when it is agreed they can no longer remain at home.
* Refer children into centralised specialist services.
* Work within the framework of legislation, council policies and procedures to improve children’s well‑being and promote independence.
* Collaborate closely with Early Help, Assessment & Staying Together, Children with Disabilities Teams, and health and education colleagues within the District Model.
Ideal Candidate
* A social work degree and registration with Social Work England (SWE) or an equivalent.
* Post‑qualifying experience working with vulnerable children and knowledge of safeguarding and children in care.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance such as the Children Act, Working Together, Adoption Act, Every Child Matters.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Demonstrated ability to improve outcomes for children and young people.
* Examples of creative social work practice to keep children and young people within their families where it is safe to do so.
