Offer description

Full-time (37 hrs per week); fixed-term to 31 August 2026.

In this project funded by Loughborough alumni, we further develop our Dementia Inclusive House activities focusing on Co-Design using Virtual Reality. The main aim of this project is to develop techniques using Virtual Reality (VR) to enable people living with dementia to collaborate with architects and designers of technology in designing homes which support their independence, health, and quality of life.

Following our successful Enterprise funded project 'The Chris and Sally house' in Watford, which is described in two books, our alumni wish to further support this work.

For the first part of the project, we are looking to expand our team with an architect who has experience with VR projects used in co-design. The candidate should be able to work effectively with people living with dementia. Experience in writing software to implement immediate changes in VR would be advantageous. Knowledge and experience of dementia and inclusive design are desirable. Academic qualifications, including a PhD in VR and in-depth knowledge of architecture related to inclusive design or a related area, are required.

This full-time post is offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 August 2026.

For more information on the role, please refer to the official job posting. Informal enquiries should be directed to Eef Hogervorst, Professor of Psychology, via email or by telephone at 01509 223020.

Closing Date: 28 August 2025.

Loughborough University is committed to flexible working arrangements, allowing a combination of on-campus and remote work where possible. If successful, your line manager will discuss these arrangements with you. Please note that there is an expectation that the successful candidate will spend most of their time working on the Loughborough campus.

Salary: From £35,116, in the Specialist and Supporting Academic Research Grade 6, subject to annual pay reviews.
