Overview

Join West Ham United Women as their Head of Medical and lead the strategy for high performance and player wellbeing. This senior leadership position is a fantastic opportunity to join a WSL club at the crossroads of history, ambition, and innovation, where passion and progress create something special.

You will manage the delivery of a first-class Physiotherapy and Sports Science service across both the Women’s First Team and Women’s Academy. This is a dynamic role where your expertise will directly influence player health, availability, and on-pitch success.


Responsibilities

* Lead and manage the Medical and Sports Science service, line managing the wider multidisciplinary team.
* Assess, diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate all player injuries and illnesses, creating the safest and quickest strategies for return to training and competition.
* Manage on-field emergencies, conducting pitch-side assessment and treatment during all training sessions and matches. Travel to home and away fixtures (domestic and international) is a key requirement.
* Communicate injury status and rehabilitation plans to the management team and Performance Director.
* Lead the continuous delivery of individual and squad injury prevention and recovery programs, implementing holistic strategies to maximize player availability above 90%.
* Oversee all governance, including maintaining accurate medical records, conducting injury audits, and ensuring adherence to all medical management protocols.
* Manage the Medical and Sports Science budget for consumables, diagnostic tests, treatments, and surgeries.


Your Skills and Experience

* A minimum of five years of post-graduate experience, including at least three years in elite/professional sport, preferably within women's sport.
* Active HCPC registration as a Chartered Physiotherapist.
* Experience in leading an elite therapy team and a track record of producing effective injury audits and prevention strategies.
* Proven expertise in triaging musculoskeletal injuries and planning/delivering rehabilitation programs for elite athletes.
* A valid FA ATMMiF qualification (Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football) and a current, valid enhanced DBS check.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with experience in staff development and training.
