Senior Social Worker – Portsmouth City Council
We are looking for a Senior Social Worker with previous mental health experience and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The role involves working with individuals and their families in a person‑centred way, identifying the best resources to assist with service users’ needs, and finding creative ways to meet these. Responsibilities include maintaining high standards of care, acting as a lead professional for several agreed cases, promoting independence, choice and wellbeing of service users and their carers, and offering comprehensive needs assessments, care plans and risk assessments to ensure implementation and review of appropriate care and treatment. The candidate will be fully conversant with statutory legislation and guidance and expected to supervise qualified and unqualified staff as part of Portsmouth’s commitment to support and nurture its staff.

Who Is The Person
Applicants should be a Social Worker registered with Social Work England and have substantial social work experience, particularly with individuals experiencing mental health difficulties. A thorough understanding of the legislation governing the adult social care role and a comprehensive awareness of practice to safeguard adults is essential. Candidates must demonstrate effective case management, evidence‑based recording skills, excellent assessment skills, and prior supervisory experience. Strong communication skills, the ability to handle conflict, and the capacity to work independently while managing competing demands are required.
