We have an exciting vacancy for a Business Manager role, offering a fantastic flexible working opportunity on a job-share basis to partner with our current Business Manager at Outwood Academy Haydock, to commence on 01 September 2026. The role is part-time and full year, with a flexible working pattern for three days (22.2 hours) per week. Ideally, working days would be three consecutive working days however other patterns may be considered. As Business Manager, you will provide overall strategic leadership and management at an academy level of all aspects of administration, HR, and operations support within the school. You will be the school’s leading support staff professional and provide leadership and management of the school’s support staff. You will also maintain a strong relationship with the school’s Finance Manager and ensure that the school’s resourcing needs are clearly interpreted into the budget setting process. To be successful, you should have a solid background in leading and motivating colleagues and developing strategies to improve the support services of a school. Responsibilities As the academy’s leading support staff professional, the Business Manager provides overall strategic leadership and management for administration, estate management, catering, and operations support. This pivotal role acts as a full member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), ensuring optimal resource allocation. Operational responsibilities include line managing support staff, administering performance management, and advising senior leaders on the full spectrum of HR issues, including recruitment and attendance management. The Business Manager is also tasked with developing and implementing risk management strategies, overseeing premises maintenance, and ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations. Candidates must also possess proven experience contributing at a strategic level within a senior management or leadership team. Key technical knowledge includes managing risk assessments and applying health and safety legislation. The role requires excellent communication skills to gain credibility at all levels, the ability to lead and motivate staff, and proven competency in standard ICT packages, including Microsoft Office. While solid experience is critical, being educated to degree level or holding an equivalent professional qualification is desirable.
