Overview
An opportunity has arisen at Harrow for a Post Graduate Assistant Teacher (PGAT) of Computer Science from September 2026.
Responsibilities
* PGAT appointments are fixed term contracts and are typically for one academic year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year.
* Teach a reduced timetable, typically including no more than 20 timetabled lessons of 40 minutes per week, and assist in departments as appropriate to experience and ability.
* Provide training in teaching skills and transferable skills for career development.
* Support students and colleagues in ways relevant to the role and contribute to the department as needed.
* Assist in activities related to the department's curriculum and day-to-day operation.
Computer Science is a central department at the School, with a forward-looking curriculum emphasizing problem-solving, innovation and hands-on experience from the outset. The curriculum contents include cyber-safety, digital hygiene, typing skills, artificial intelligence, Python programming, mathematical modelling, scientific analysis, game development and robotics projects.
Examples of departmental progression include Shell Year (Year 9) introducing cyber-safety and Python-based projects, Remove and Fifth Forms (Years 10 and 11) following the CAIE IGCSE Computer Science course (0478) with emphasis on algorithms, system architecture and software development, and A level studies under the Cambridge International Computer Science syllabus focusing on data structures, systems design, programming paradigms and algorithmic analysis. Students undertake practical work, hardware projects (e.g., Raspberry Pi), and independent projects relevant to the course and future study in related fields.

Qualifications and Requirements
The role is intended for individuals pursuing a career in teaching and seeking relevant experience and training. The School provides training in teaching and transferable skills. Successful applicants should be prepared to undergo safeguarding and child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). It is an offence to apply for the role if barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
