St Johns Hospice provides care to patients and their families from both NWL and NCL ICBs.
We currently have an opportunity for a Specialty resident doctor wanting to develop knowledge and skills in caring for patients requiring specialist palliative care. In addition to the 17 bedded inpatient unit, we also have a Community Specialist Palliative Care Team, a Hospice at Home Team, a Wellbeing Centre and a Lymphoedema Service. Working across all departments we also have our social work and bereavement team and our hospice therapies team. In addition we provide a number of complementary therapies which are available for both the patient and those important to them

What You’ll Be Doing
1. Provide day‑to‑day medical management for patients in the Inpatient Unit, including admissions, ward rounds, clinical meetings and MDT collaboration.
2. Ensure high‑quality, contemporaneous clinical documentation using SystmOne.
3. Assess and manage the palliative needs of patients and support the emotional and psychological needs of their families and carers.
4. Complete medical examiner referrals, coroner referrals and MCCDs.
5. Support Wellbeing Centre, outpatient and community patients as required.
6. Provide cross‑cover for colleagues during leave.
7. Liaise effectively with Primary and Secondary Care teams to ensure continuity of care.
8. Contribute to the training and supervision of junior doctors, medical students and other learners.
9. Participate in clinical governance, audit, research and quality improvement.
10. Maintain CPD and meet GMC revalidation requirements.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
11. Full GMC registration with Licence to Practise
12. MBBS or equivalent
13. Minimum 4 years’ experience post‑full GMC registration
14. Broad medical experience, including some exposure to specialist palliative care
15. Strong interest in developing skills in Palliative Medicine
16. Excellent communication skills with patients, families and colleagues
17. Skilled multidisciplinary team working
18. Ability to manage a varied caseload effectively
19. Good IT skills
20. Experience of clinical audit with evidence of impact
21. Awareness of own limitations and willingness to seek support
