Sterile Services Technician

As a member of the Sterile Services Team, you will provide highly specialised surgical instrument reprocessing across the Trust, community, and external clients in line with ISO13485 standards and other quality management system work instructions.

Main duties of the job
* Participate in a duty rota which includes weekday evening shifts, weekends, bank holidays and on-call commitments.
* Communicate all relevant information within the team to ensure the continual and efficient running of the service.
* Liaise between decontamination personnel, customers, and other healthcare staff in a polite and helpful manner.
* Demonstrate competency and understanding of sterilisation and disinfection procedures.
* Report any untoward accident or incident or faulty equipment to the supervisor and document the procedure in accordance with departmental and Trust policies.
* Perform any additional new development or tasks required as deemed necessary by management to support existing Trust activities, in line with your level of responsibility and competence.

Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good literacy and numeracy skills essential
* National Decontamination Training Programme or other decontamination qualification or equivalent
* Quality system auditing experience would be valuable
Knowledge & Experience
* Previous experience in a Sterile Services Department or medical device decontamination manufacturing or production environment
* Experience in a peri-operative care setting or healthcare clinical environment, such as theatres

* Work in uncomfortable or unpleasant physical conditions, e.g. exposure to blood, bone and body tissue.
* Ability to stand for long periods in all sections of the department.
* Ability to move loads up to 12 kg. Loading/unloading washer disinfectors, moving sterile instrument trays/medical devices. Trays must be lifted cleanly to minimise damage to wrap sterilisers.
* Ability to concentrate in all sections of the department, checking theatre tray lists and medical device lists, checking process equipment tests and recording results.
* Ability to organise workload and workflow.
* Pay attention to detail in all sections of the department while performing repetitive movements, e.g. handling instruments/medical devices, constant repetitive movements while examining instruments/medical devices/endoscopes for cleanliness and functionality.
* Ability to retain and recall technical information.
* Flexible to work hours required to meet department demands.
* Work weekends, bank holidays and participate in on-call rota.
