Job Summary
Opportunity in Ophthalmology team at Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital, Burton. Deliver general ophthalmology care. Plans pending; requires direct clinical care sessions at the Royal Derby Hospital site and peripheral sites.
Main Duties
Service based at Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital, Burton. Appointment under National Terms and Conditions of Service for Specialty Doctors (2021). Provide clinical care in ophthalmology, support to achieve specialty registration through CESR route, manage patient care, and maintain governance and quality systems.
Responsibilities
* Deliver direct clinical care in ophthalmology across scheduled sites.
* Support and develop competencies for specialty registration via CESR.
* Participate in clinical governance, reporting errors, and learning from errors.
* Engage in audit, QIP, and research activities.
* Supervise and teach resident doctors and medical students.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) and share administrative duties.
Person Specification
Essential
* MBBS / MBChB or equivalent.
* Life support qualifications (BLS, ALS, PBLS).
* Full GMC registration with licence to practice.
* Minimum four years postgraduate training or equivalent in Ophthalmology.
* Up‑to‑date clinical knowledge, risk management, decision‑making skills.
* Minimum one year NHS experience.
* Commitment to continuous professional development and clinical governance.
* Ability to work as part of MDT and experience of formal presentations.
* Evidence of supervising/teaching, audit and QIP activity.
* Professional and personal integrity.
Desirable
* Additional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty.
* Higher qualification in leadership or management.
* Independent operating.
* Evidence of leadership skills.
* Experience teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates.
* 360‑degree feedback and patient survey involvement.
* Any teaching courses or qualifications.

Salary and Contract
£61,542 to £99,216 per annum, Permanent, Full‑time, Grade: Specialty Doctor.
