Position

An opportunity has arisen for a Bank Staff Midwife based at University Hospital Crosshouse.


What You Will Do

With supervision and in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, the nurse will, as a member of the nursing team, be accountable for the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs of care for a defined caseload of patients, working within the professional standards held in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, ensuring safe working practices of himself/herself and others, and working within their own recognized Scope of Practice. According to agreed competencies, the bank nurse may carry out this work in hospital and/or community settings.

The nurse will work with the shift leader within the ward or department, guided by local and national protocols, procedures, and guidelines, making decisions based on best practice evidence and assisting in monitoring the work of the nursing team and supporting colleagues to provide safe and effective nursing care.

Occasionally, the nurse will supervise and advise junior registered and non-registered staff and may contribute to the development of teaching and learning programs within the ward or department.

Where appropriate, take opportunities to undertake further education and develop interests to support and benefit the ward or department. There should be an understanding of a range of work procedures and practices, some of which are non-routine, requiring a base level of theoretical knowledge, normally acquired through formal training or equivalent experience.


Knowledge, Training, And/or Experience Required To Do The Job

* Registered Staff Midwife with a current NMC registration
* Team-working skills and the ability to work using own initiative
* Effective communication and time management skills
* Working knowledge of wards or departments and organizational policies and procedures
* Ability to keep relevant skills/knowledge updated and documented, as per NMC guidelines
* A commitment to lifelong learning and evidence of continuing professional development


Hours

This is a bank post to work as and when required.
