Position: Laboratory Technician

About the Role
We’re looking for a proactive and detail‑oriented Laboratory Technician to join our In Vitro DMPK Assay group at our Hoddesdon site. We’re looking for an experienced Laboratory Technician to support both analytical and cell‑based workflows. You’ll prepare buffers and solvents, weigh compounds, run automated assay scripts, and transfer data accurately between systems. You’ll also maintain immortalised cell cultures, prepare incubation plates, manage inventory, log client samples, and carry out routine equipment checks.
We’re seeking someone with strong A‑Level science (B grade or above), practical lab skills including aseptic technique, and good organisational ability. Confidence with Excel, a practical mindset, and the ability to plan and problem‑solve will help you succeed in this role.
Key Responsibilities
1. Preparing buffers, solvents and other liquid stocks according to protocols
2. Weighing solid compounds and reagents in preparation for analysis.
3. Perform automated assay scripts and process experimental samples in preparation for analysis
4. Transcription of compound information and analytical output data, between computer systems, to enable sample analysis.
5. Maintaining the laboratory inventory systems and ordering chemicals and consumables as required.
6. Receiving and logging client test article shipments into the inventory system.
7. Checking the performance of laboratory equipment at regular intervals to demonstrate suitability for use.
8. Maintain immortalised cell cultures and create incubation plates according to required assay schedules.
Candidate Profile
9. A level in Science (Chemistry or Biology preferred) minimum B grade
10. Basic, practical laboratory skills with experience of aseptic techniques applied to cells
11. Good organisational and time-management skills with ability to plan required work schedule
12. Uses own initiative and problem-solving skills to meet assay frequency demands
13. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel
14. Good communication, organisational and time-management skills
15. Enjoys working in a team
16. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software
