The Opportunity
We have a unique opportunity for an Air Quality & Climate Consultant due to an increasing climate-focused pipeline. Join our growing Air Quality and Climate team, which is expanding into new areas, including a large-scale climate risk and adaptation project. Our air quality pipeline includes complex permitting, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and DMRB assessments.
This role offers a chance to influence our team's growth, shape impactful environmental projects, and support work-winning and mentoring apprentices in air quality and climate.
The position is permanent, with flexible hybrid working options across London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, Manchester, and York.
The role
You will support project delivery in a collaborative environment with mentoring and development opportunities. Your responsibilities include:
* Preparing and reviewing reports, designs, calculations, and documentation for scheme deliverables.
* Conducting qualitative and quantitative air quality assessments for roads and industrial permitting.
* Supporting climate risk assessments and developing adaptation plans.
* Assisting in bid writing for air quality and climate tenders.
* Mentoring junior colleagues and promoting health and safety practices.
What will you be doing?
Air Quality:
* Supporting air quality assessments following EPUK / IAQM and DMRB guidance.
* Developing and checking air quality dispersion models (ADMS), including data digitization, model runs, and post-processing.
* Supporting Environmental Permit applications and coordinating technical inputs.
* Preparing BAT reviews and managing permit compliance throughout the permit lifecycle.
Climate:
* Conducting climate risk assessments, identifying vulnerabilities and exposures.
* Using climate projections (UKCP18, GIS, etc.) to evaluate risks and future impacts.
* Developing climate resilience strategies and working with multidisciplinary teams.
* Recommending adaptation and mitigation measures to enhance resilience.
Business Development:
* Supporting growth initiatives and identifying new service opportunities.
* Contributing to proposals and bids for new projects.
* Staying updated on climate science, policies, and technologies.
* Improving assessment methodologies and ensuring regulatory compliance.
What will you bring to us:
* A relevant degree in science or engineering, with additional qualifications preferred.
* Membership or progress towards IAQM and/or IEMA.
* Strong knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation.
* Experience with EIAs, permitting, climate data (UKCP18, HadCRUT5), and tools like ADMS and GIS.
* Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
* Collaborative mindset and innovative approach.
